Aftercare for Vehicle Wraps
Taking proper care of your vehicle wrap ensures it remains vibrant and lasts longer. Here are some essential aftercare tips:
- Allow Wrap to Set: Wait 1-2 weeks before washing your vehicle to allow the wrap to fully adhere. During this time, avoid any moisture or cleaning.
- Hand Washing: Hand washing with car wash soap is the safest method for cleaning your vehicle. Use a soft cloth or sponge to gently remove dirt and grime without damaging the wrap.
- Automatic Car Washes: While convenient, automatic car washes can potentially damage wraps. Although many customers use them without issues, it's important to recognize that they might cause premature wear or damage.
- Avoid Pressure Washing: Pressure washing can lift the edges and seams of the vinyl and should be avoided. The high pressure can delaminate the wrap and reduce its lifespan.
- Minimize Sun Exposure: Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the wrap to age faster. Whenever possible, park in shaded areas to protect the wrap from UV rays.
- Immediate Cleaning of Spills: Clean gasoline spills and bird droppings promptly to prevent degradation of the laminate. These substances can cause discoloration and damage over time.
- Use Wrap-Specific Polishes: Specialized aftercare polishes can help prolong the life of your wrap. These products are designed to protect and maintain the appearance of vinyl wraps.
- Spot Cleaning: For stubborn spots, use isopropyl alcohol to clean, then rinse with cool water. This helps remove contaminants without harming the wrap.
- Avoid Certain Cleaning Products: Do not use solvents, oil-based cleaners, kitchen and bathroom cleaners, oven cleaner, orange oil, engine degreaser, or brake cleaner. These products can damage the wrap.
- Monitor Wrap Condition: If the wrap appears dull, cracked, faded, or yellowed, it may be reaching the end of its lifespan, especially on horizontal surfaces exposed to the elements. Consider having these areas replaced.
- Schedule Wrap Removal: To prevent potential paint damage or difficult removal, don't leave the wrap on past its lifespan. Contact us when your wrap shows signs of aging or wear for professional removal or replacement.
Pre-Wrap Checklist
Preparing your vehicle before bringing it in for wrap application ensures a smooth installation and maximizes the wrap's longevity. Follow this checklist to get your vehicle ready:
- Remove Grease, Road Grime, and Insects:
- Use a degreasing agent such as Citrus Cleaner to remove all road grease, grime, tar, and insects. This will ensure a smooth surface for application.
- Remove Debris in All Seams:
- Use a soft-bristled brush and terry cloth to remove all debris like pine needles, twigs, and contaminants from door and hood seams. This ensures the vinyl adheres properly around doors and hoods.
- Remove Adhesive from Previous Vinyl Applications:
- If there are residual adhesives from previous vinyl graphics, use a degreasing agent to remove them. It may take several applications to remove stubborn, dried adhesive completely.
- Refrain from Waxing Vehicle or Using Tire Shine:
- Do not apply wax to your vehicle’s exterior surfaces for several weeks before wrap installation. Wax can interfere with the adhesive bond, making the wrap vulnerable to lifting and bubbles.
- Run Vehicle Through a Carwash:
- Before your wrap is installed, run the vehicle through a car wash to ensure all surfaces are clean. Ensure the cleaning cycle uses only soap and water, with no wax or tire shine.
Note: While it is not mandatory to complete this checklist due to inclement weather or tight timelines, it is ideal for ensuring a quick and cost-effective installation. If the vehicle is not adequately prepared, additional charges of $80 per hour may be incurred for cleaning time and supplies.
